…The information part worries me, though. I’m more inclined to be an accelerationist and hope the benefits outrace the costs, which I definitely think they will. But information only picks up the private value, so the social cost to the decision you make. The information doesn’t change what you do very much. People know a lot about global warming. Some people eat less meat, but for the most part, they don’t, right? Well, one of the things that you do is, you create information which becomes truly common. The economic index work we’ve done is from one single firm, but ultimately, you might want to generalize that to all firms, but then link it to large-scale data gathering that governments might do. I think if that became the case, you would have a higher chance of tying it to actual policy responses that would be larger in scope. I also think, on climate change, just by measuring things like parts per million — stuff like that has helped catalyze large-scale amounts of capital to get re-mobilized around the economy in different areas to deal with this perceived negative impact that that has. Do you agree with my view that we will not have meaningful international agreements on the hard parts of AI? Maybe on the simple parts.…
