…Let’s say it’s 10 years from now. GPUs are their successor. They’re not that scarce. There’s a lot of idle capacity just sitting around, and let’s say it’s very cheap. What do you have it do in its spare time? Ooh, that’s fun. I think one of the things is you might just pay AI systems by giving them access to compute. You could imagine some kind of barter economy. Now, for a range of bone-chilling safety problems with what I just said, but let’s put that aside and assume that those are mostly dealt with. I think there’ll be some form of trade with powerful AI systems or agents that work on people’s behalf, and you may want to trade with them a form of compute because agents may be able to use compute for themselves as well. That’s some of it. I think the other part is generating interesting permutations of stuff that you find valuable or interesting. I also suspect that there are going to be very weird things we can’t anticipate that look like . . . and a form of entertainment that looks like parallel history generation or parallel future generation. People are always fascinated by what ifs and rollouts of what ifs. Fan fiction, I think, will grow immensely.…
