In 2011, after Microsoft had released this Windows Phone, which like we said was really doomed to fail against Android, like you just couldn’t compete with free. I think Bill Gurley had a blog post about Android back in the day about the less than free business model and why you can’t compete with it. In fact, it’s not that they were giving away for free. They were willing to pay people to take it. If you think about it, I’m sure there was money that they spent on the Droid marketing campaign. I’m sure there was money that they paid to the carriers to pay to their salespeople, to incentivize people to buy it versus the iPhone in stores. That was a common practice in the mobile industry.
