…For me, Pomerode was so boring, it was interesting. Incredibly quiet, north German architecture. The dialect maybe almost sounded like Plattdeutsch, I’m not sure. People didn’t believe me when I said I was an American. None of the categories made sense to them. People were friendly; it felt German. This was the 1990s, and it was like a time warp more than anything. Nowhere in Germany would be the way Pomerode was in the 1990s. Brazil has that.
