…I think most of my decisions are made without my awareness. What I feel is my consciousness is some kind of blip or epiphenomenon. Skating on the surface of that, there’s a lot of evidence. This is where I don’t really believe you. I think, certainly, that if you’re driving through Arlington, Virginia, there is a set of unconscious things that your body does out of habit as you drive around that you are not self-consciously doing. Certainly, there’re lots of things. You are a mind in some kind of dynamic relationship to a brain and body. There’re plenty of things going on that your consciousness is not responsible for. But you write books, do you not? You host podcasts, do you not? Some part of me does, yes. Most of it happens beneath the surface, and I’m not aware of the decisions I’m making.
