…And he would watch and analyze. I don’t remember him ever missing a single sparring session since 2012. Can you imagine? 14 years have gone by, and right now we’re in training camp. He’s there for every training session, morning and evening. He’s at every sparring session, watching everyone, coaching them, giving advice, guiding them. He’s incredibly dedicated to what he does. He’s either all in or he steps away completely. He never shows up and gives only 50%. I remember one situation. Abubakar was getting ready to fight in WSOF, and I had another student fighting there as well. Abubakar went through the entire preparation with us, but the other guy didn’t. I don’t know how ready you are.” I’m not ready to go in there and give all my energy to someone who didn’t go through camp with me. Now I understand that. At that time, I told the coach, “Can you come out and corner him with me?” He said, “No problem.” We went out there, Abubakar won his fight, and the other guy’s fight ended in a draw. But that’s not really what I’m getting at. I’ve come to the point where if I haven’t trained someone for two, three, or four months, I don’t like to corner them because they didn’t go through a full training camp, and I don’t know how they’ll respond in the third, fourth, or fifth round. I don’t know how he prepared. I don’t know how ready he is to go into those deep waters. That’s why I try not to corner just anyone. I learned that from Javier. So you need to know he can go into those deep waters.…
