…There is some larger model that ties it all together, right, in your mind? Certainly, my current book—yes—is looking at leaders not just in the sphere of politics, which is where I first got interested in this subject, but also in the business world and in the sports world, sports coaches, and in the world of religion. It turns out that there are common questions and common methods used for studying leaders in these different spheres. For example, I hadn’t realized before I got into this area that much of the research on sports coaches has been done by business school professors because the questions of leadership that business school professors ask can be answered more easily in sports. In sports, there’s a game every week. All the teams play by the same rules. There may be 24 teams in the same league. It’s reproducible. Business is not so reproducible. Much of the work about the methods for assessing leaders in business have been developed by business school professors testing their methods and developing the methods in the world of sports. In politics, do you think destructive leaders matter more than constructive leaders just because it’s easier and cheaper to destroy?…
