Shenzhen was basically created by economic reforms. It is the economic capital of private entrepreneurship, of innovations, and of the incredible supply chains that China has been able to create in the last 30 years. To understand the economic side of China, you need to go to Shenzhen, close to Hong Kong, just next to Hong Kong. I would argue that you go to Xi’an first to understand their political mentality, and then you go to Shenzhen. Then ask yourself the question, can these two things co-exist with each other for a long period of time? Under what conditions can they co-exist with each other for a sustainable period of time?
