Maybe you know the Monty Python skit where they do, “Summarize Proust, and you have 10 seconds.” How would you summarize what’s in those four volumes? Why is it interesting? I would summarize it as Proust with rocket ships and ray guns. So I would say — “summarize Proust” — to summarize Wolfe, Wolfe is Proust with rockets and ray guns. Is it introspective?
