…Of course. Charisma is a real thing, and in a way, I think sometimes we put charisma into a category like grit or like authenticity. It’s like, “Well, it’s a thing that we throw at people when we write about them, and it’s just this imaginary construct.” But I have found, over and over again, that charisma is one of the realest things in the experience of being alive. There are people who are different when you’re around them than they are when you see them on a screen or you read them, and it changes everything. Then there are some people who can transmit that charisma through the screen or through the page. In some ways, it’s just the most attractive quality a performer can have, and the most desirable. I said voice is the most important part of writing. There’s also a voice to his identity, just his being. He’s an athlete in a funny way.…
