Transcript context
…Is it ever like some parts of Mexico where you’re more afraid of the police themselves than of the criminals? I mean the police then are the criminals. I think that’s rare. I think that in a poor ghetto on a Friday and a Saturday night, the police are very violent. They move in paramilitary formations. They throw young men on the streets into vans, but generally they will not seriously hurt or kill somebody in a situation like that. So yeah, I’d say people are not more afraid of the police than of criminals, but they’re very, very wary of the police. How dangerous is it to work as police in South Africa if they’re not going to a lot of the crimes and the troubled situations? Is it, in some ways, a safe job? Or is it still very dangerous?…
