…Right now we just have these neurons in the model. They don't make any sense. We apply dictionary learning. We get these features out. They start to make sense but that depends on the activations of the neurons. The weights of the model itself, like what neurons are connected to other neurons, certainly has information in it.The dream is that we can kind of bootstrap towards actually making sense of the weights of the model that are independent of the activations of the data. I'm not saying we've made any progress here, it's a very hard problem. But it feels like we'll have a lot more traction and be able to sanity check what we're finding with the weights if we're able to pull out features first. For the audience, weights are permanent.
