…The American author Jack Kerouac — in his book On the Road, he suggested that maybe the real problem with hitchhiking is you feel obliged to entertain your driver on and on, and this can be quite monotonous. Do you ever find this to be the case? Sometimes you can get bored, but that’s the reason why I hitchhike in the first place: to mix and meet people. Besides, it hasn’t been a matter of money — like, I do hitchhike in India or places where transportation is so cheap. Sometimes it can be boring to repeat over and over your story of “Where do you come from? What are you doing? ” in each car you board. But it pays off because people then have such amazing stories to share. It’s actually my default setting. My typical approach to explore a country is hitchhiking — that’s why I do it.
