The bloggers were talking with top Treasury officials, and that made sense because, really, so few people understood what was going on, and everyone was trying to help one another and get different perspectives on it. That was really a remarkable time. That was the era when the blogosphere, or more generally, internet as a tool of intellectual calculation became developed. The notion that it’s a computer of its own and that if you learn how to play the keys, you could figure out the best sense of what was going on, but not from any one blog. A lot of MR in those eras, you need to think of it as part of this larger organ of intellectual calculation. We were a cog in that machine. It’s not true now, it wasn’t true in the earlier popular-economics years, but that’s how I think of that time.…
