…Why do you remain personally so tied to the state of Michigan? Well, I spend my summers in Michigan, most of my summers. I think it’s the greatest state in the country. It has a lake that looks like an ocean when you’re standing on it. There’s something about the Midwest that I’ll never be able to take it out of me, even having lived in big cities. My dad was a truck driver. My mom was a grade school art teacher and artist. There’s kind of an earthiness, and it was great growing up there.
