It was a perfect storm, or a horrible storm for Clinton. There’s no doubt about that. Everything that could have gone wrong went wrong, but still you thought somehow . . . We knew about the Electoral College. I think that system needs to be looked at. It’s not working. If I lived in Hawaii, I would be really pissed because my vote doesn’t count because by then, the election’s decided. It should really be one person, one vote, regardless of where you live. I don’t know why geography makes a difference. I’m for state rights up to a point because if you do something here, you’re OK. If you do the same thing here, you’re a criminal. I just don’t get that. How can it be so disparate, so different from state to state? Particularly now with legal marijuana, etc., or crossing state lines with liquor in your car, it just doesn’t make sense. Anyway, I’m not an authoritarian at all, obviously, but I think the federal government needs to be more responsible for what’s going on in our country. There’s too many things that are unfair in this country. It could be so much better. How did it all happen? I think you see the statistics. You get frustrated because it doesn’t make any sense for so many women still to be voting that way. People just don’t pay enough attention to facts. If I talk to a lot of Eastern European or Communist èmigrès — Garry Kasparov, Masha Gessen — I get the sense that they view what’s happening in America now through the lens of their history . . .…
