Yes, they were pretty serious about equal rights for women. I think that was maybe a big part of why a lot of Western leftists thought it was a great place, because there really were a lot of women getting better education, becoming doctors, getting roles in the military. It was easier to get things like abortions or to get a divorce. So, they did put their money where their mouth was as far as women’s rights were concerned.
