The Trips Festival that I organized with the Merry Pranksters, Ken Kesey’s group — Grateful Dead — they had just renamed themselves from the Warlocks, and they really took over the three-day show that we did. People just wanted to jazz their guts out all night long. The Dead had the way to do that. All the other artistic stuff that I brought in there was interesting, amusing frippery, but the Dead really won the day.
